The Rolex Submariner “Hulk” — officially Ref. 116610LV — is the green-bezel, green-dial variant of the classic Submariner Date. Produced from 2010 to 2020, it is the most coveted version of the 40mm Submariner generation, now discontinued and commanding significant premiums in the pre-owned market. This is its story and why collectors love it.
Why Is It Called the Hulk?
The nickname “Hulk” came naturally from the watch community. When Rolex introduced the 116610LV with its all-green Cerachrom ceramic bezel and matching green dial, the combination was bold, even aggressive. It was the largest, greenest, most powerful-looking Submariner Rolex had ever made — hence the Marvel superhero reference. The name stuck immediately and is now used universally, even by Rolex authorised dealers.
The Green Cerachrom Bezel
The 116610LV’s defining feature is its Cerachrom ceramic bezel in a rich, deep green. Unlike the aluminium bezel of earlier green Submariners (like the Ref. 16610LV “Kermit”), the Cerachrom ceramic is virtually scratch-proof, UV-stable, and will not fade. The platinum-filled numerals and diving scale sit crisp and permanent against the green ceramic. The green dial — with its distinct warm, almost olive tone under certain lights — creates a cohesive look that divides opinion and inspires fierce loyalty.

Hulk vs Kermit: What Is the Difference?
Collectors distinguish between two famous green Submariners: the “Kermit” (Ref. 16610LV, 2003–2010) and the “Hulk” (Ref. 116610LV, 2010–2020). The key differences:
| Feature | Kermit 16610LV | Hulk 116610LV |
|---|---|---|
| Bezel Material | Aluminium insert | Cerachrom ceramic |
| Dial | Black dial, green bezel only | Green dial AND green bezel |
| Crown Guard | Older style | Updated Oyster crown guards |
| Bracelet | Oyster, older clasp | Oyster, Glidelock clasp |
| Movement | Cal. 3135 | Cal. 3135 (updated) |
The Hulk’s combination of green dial AND green bezel gives it a bolder, more monochromatic appearance than the Kermit. Most collectors now consider the Hulk the more desirable of the two — though the Kermit has a devoted following among purists.
Replaced by the “Starbucks” (Ref. 126610LV)
In 2020, Rolex replaced the Hulk with the updated Ref. 126610LV — nicknamed the “Starbucks” (green bezel, black dial). The new watch has a 41mm case, updated Calibre 3235, and a new two-colour green/black ceramic bezel. While technically superior, the Starbucks lacks the Hulk’s all-green drama — and the Hulk’s discontinued status has made it significantly more collectible.
Value: The Hulk Premium
| Condition | Approx. 2026 Pre-Owned Value |
|---|---|
| Full set, mint, unworn | $18,000–$24,000 USD |
| Full set, excellent condition | $15,000–$19,000 USD |
| No papers, good condition | $12,000–$15,000 USD |
The Hulk commands a 25–40% premium over the equivalent black Submariner Date 116610LN. For a discontinued model with a passionate collector base, this premium is likely to persist. The Hulk is, in the truest sense, a green investment.
